Decor Voyeur: the simple yet layered home of dress designer Heidi Merrick

Decor Voyeur - have a peek inside amazing homes at The Unexpected ChicIt’s been awhile since I’ve done one of these, and I thought it was about time when I stumbled upon this cool post on The Glitter Guide! I’ve basically just stolen my fave pictures from their post, teehee, but I really wanted this to go down in the books of The Unexpected Chic!

Heidi Merrick is a fashion designer based in Los Angeles. Her home is many things at once – modern, eclectic, antique-filled, simplistic, intriguing, layered.

I love the different scales at play here, with the oversized palm leaves and cushions forming monolithic shapes and tipping this room’s look in a cool curious direction!

You can just SEE the stories and mysteries rubbed into the worn surfaces of these artefacts. I love the imperfection of the arrangement and of the pieces themselves.

The white slip covers and smooth, perfect oranges bring in some so-fresh-and-so-clean-ness to contrast with the patinaed bits and bobs.

Some exemplary bookcase styling here – nice fresh blues!

The scales again here – the mirror is totally overwhelming that little table, and the big blue four-poster feels big in the space – but somehow it totally works!

Don’t you think it’s fantastic how the whole home somehow manages to teeter between cluttered and almost minimal?

Such a romantic super-crammed collection of perfumes!

Pattern overload – love!!

This chair looks like it’s been on its last legs for oh say, about the last 80 years :) Again skilfully combined with modern pieces to create a unique artsy aesthetic that oozes character.

You also need to check out Heidi’s own blog, particularly the post on her daughter’s artwork! What an amazing take on the simultaneous beauty and destruction that is children.

Also, watch this video of her Fall 2011 collection – so much awesome outfit inspiration!!
