It’s in all the design and style magazines, and can be spotted walking the streets of the world’s swankier cities: the pastel trend is here and thriving for Spring 2012. I love the soft shades and papery layering that build to make this accessible yet very luxe look.
Fashion-wise, it can run toward the sporty and streetwear end, or stick to the ultra-ladylike. Similarly in interiors, I like how the trend works equally well with modern, eclectic spaces or classic traditional ones.
As far as this baby’s parents go, I would cite the long-surviving shabby chic or French country vein of interior decor, which has mated with the tribal and brights trend from 2011. Together they’ve formed a lovely hybrid that is more muted and mysterious. There is a softness and demure romanticism that comes from the French country, plus a wild and limitless palette thanks to the tribal influence.
I’ve had fun exploring some of the visual inspirations behind the pastel trend which you can check out below! Have fun building outfits and dreaming up rooms to fill with these lovely pale shades and layered textures.
