Outfit to Fitout: High fashion-inspired ‘soft drama’ mood board for a traditional living room

Outfit to Fitout - interiors inspired by fashion on The Unexpected Chic

I have a project coming up in a few months’ time with a client who has just purchased a home built in the early 1900s, and wants to refurbish it in keeping with its historical period. I’ve started playing around with looks and ideas as there are many different directions we could go while still in keeping with a traditional style.

I looked to some classic fashion to get inspiration for colours and textures to create a semi-formal traditional look that I like to call ‘soft drama’.

The house has beautiful woodwork but needs some serious help in the decor department. For this scheme I’ve kept the pale pink sofa, the coffee table, the side tables and the piano and incorporated them into a much more stylish yet very subtle, understated re-design.

The key words here are: classic, feminine, dramatic, shadowy, filmy, reflective, soft, sweeping

As a sample for my roomFIX decor makeover package I also created these Makeover Maps to describe how to create this makeover.

Speaking of which, roomFIX packages are available over at Magnolia Hill Interiors! Score your own custom professional decor makeover for much less than traditional design services. Perfect to get your home looking fabulous in time for entertaining over the holidays!
